Studio Assignment 1 - Portraiture.

After searching around for a decent idea for a few weeks now, it finally came to me on the weekend what i should try do.

My woolworths work-mate Balasuthanthira
Jayamayuran
 (Jayama for short)

Why...?
He is probably the most amazing and genuinely kind-hearted man i have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working with.

His story is one worth sharing, and because i'm not a writer i feel taking his photograph is my way of saying thank you to him for being a part of life.

His sister is currently visiting from Sri Lanka (Jayma's home-land) and as an added bonus, his wife has just been granted a visa into Australia after a long wait and should be arriving next week some time. So timing is ideal for me to not only keep my word of taking a nice portrait of himself and his wife (once she arrives) but i also see it as a fantastic opportunity to photograph them with Jayama's family all together in their traditional garments. I am sure it will please everyone.

I phoned Jayama yesterday and he is very excited about this and can't wait to participate. We will try for a Tuesday afternoon slot in one of the studio spaces.

He studies at CIT's Reid campus, so no chance of him getting lost :]

Anyway, back to the assignment details..

We are required to create three portraits for this assignment.

  • One 3/4 - full length portrait that conveys something about the person, with a less-is-more approach.
  • A couple shot (romantic or family) any way i like.
  • A creative portrait that uses flash and at least one other form of illumination (lazer pointer, torch, led light, candle etc)

I will now continue to research and plan for this shoot further and take time to speak with him at work on Friday to see if he can help me complete things ready for the studio-shoot.
